MOBA Street Food Festival 2026

Late summer evenings in Mostar can still be unmistakably hot, but by the beginning of September there is already a subtle sense that summer is slowly preparing to leave. This year, one of those final warm evenings took us to MOBA Street Food Festival 2026, where good food, music and the relaxed atmosphere of the city came together perfectly. MOBA has become one of those events that now feels like a natural part of summer in Mostar. The 2026 edition was already the fifth, taking place over twelve evenings from August 26 to September 6 on the plateau behind the Old Gymnasium. The concept is simple but works incredibly well: street-food stands offering everything from burgers and sandwiches to pasta, pizza, international dishes and desserts, mixed with live music, workshops and plenty of activities for children.

By the time we arrived, the festival was already buzzing. Tables were full, music drifted across the plateau and there was that familiar Mostar summer-night atmosphere: families with children, groups of friends meeting for drinks, people deciding what to eat while walking between the food stalls and, of course, the smell of grills making that decision considerably harder. This year's MOBA brought together exhibitors from around the region and food inspired by American, Italian, Mexican and Asian cuisine, among others.

My choice was a Philly cheesesteak sandwich, which seemed exactly right for a street-food festival: messy, rich and comforting, packed with meat and melted cheese and definitely not something you eat elegantly. Mak and Isak were considerably less adventurous and went with the childhood classic French fries. Judging by how quickly they disappeared, they had made the right decision too.

And really, food was only part of the reason to be there. What I enjoyed most was simply sitting outside together on a warm Mostar evening, watching the crowd and letting the boys enjoy themselves. MOBA has grown into much more than a collection of food stalls. With concerts throughout its twelve-day run, children's activities and creative workshops, it has become one of those gatherings where you can easily spend an entire evening without having planned to.

There was also something slightly bittersweet about this particular visit. Early September in Mostar can still feel like the middle of summer, especially after months of heat, but the season inevitably turns. With cooler temperatures expected in the coming days, this felt very much like one of the last truly warm summer nights of 2026. Soon enough there will be jackets again, cooler evenings and that first unmistakable hint of autumn in the air. But for one more night, at least, it was still summer in Mostar.
