I love a spontaneous family weekend by the sea that resets everything and Split delivered exactly that. We packed up the car and headed down with the full crew: my sister, her husband, mom, Beni and the kids, ready for a mix of sun, food and some chaotic moments as well (we are traveling with kids after all). Our base for most of the daytime was Radisson hotel at the Znjan Beach, which feels like it’s quietly becoming one of the most exciting spots in Split again. The revitalization is obvious the moment you arrive: wide open space, cleaner lines, and a fresh lineup of modern restaurants and cafes stretching along the promenade.
We made our way into the old town, stepping into a completely different rhythm. The contrast is always striking: Znjan’s open, breezy coastline versus the dense, layered history of Split’s stone streets. Walking through the alleys of Diocletian’s Palace, you feel that familiar mix of history and everyday life colliding. Laundry above your head, tourists everywhere, locals weaving through it all like it’s just another afternoon. The kids, surprisingly, loved it.
The sea was that perfect early-season Adriatic mix. Lunch turned into one a relaxing affair and the new restaurants on Znjan really surprised me in a good way. Modern, relaxed, and just polished enough without losing that Dalmatian ease. We ordered a bit of everything, sharing plates, passing food around, commenting on what’s good (and everything was good), while the kids drifted in and out between bites and play.
We wrapped the day along the beach with people strolling, music in the background, that golden light reflecting off the water. What made the weekend, though, wasn’t just the locations. It was the mix of it all: the beach, the food, the old town, but mostly the feeling of being together without any real agenda. Just moving from one moment to the next, letting the day unfold.
