A Drive along the Makarska Riviera

Sometimes you venture out far to see something that can also be found very close to home. While on my way back home from visiting Trogir, I drove down this stretch of road of the Makarska Riviera which goes along the Adriatic Sea. I noticed some yachts in a small bay that had some crystal clear blue water. I parked the car and assembled my camera since it was already packed up. These views were in front of me...

The Makarska Riviera is a part of the Croatian coast of the Adriatic Sea, about 60 kilometers long and only several kilometers wide, squeezed under towering mountain Biokovo. Sunny climate and long pebbly beaches make this region a popular tourist destination.

The biggest places on Makarska Riviera are: Brela, Baska Voda, Promajna, Makarska, Tucepi, Podgora, Drasnice, Igrane, Drvenik, Zaostrog, Brist and Gradac.

I hope you enjoyed these sunny images from the sea. Have a great weekend ahead!

  2. Beautiful coastline Mersad & he water looks so clear. The bareness of the hills look a lot like the hills surrounding the town I grew up in on the West Coast of Tasmania.

  17. I am so much intrigued by the dark blue color of the waters even if they are just near the shore. For us that means it suddenly gets very deep at the margin of the color difference. What about those clear patches without greens on the mountains, are they rocks?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Yes those are rocks. This region is known for landscapes like those, called krš. It's not that the water gets deeper, it's about the water bed. Where the water is light blue the sea bed is white rocks, where it's dark blue the sea bed is covered with dark algae.

  19. I know this place. These are stunning views... Blue sea, gray rocks and the green color of the vegetation ... It's one of the places "must see" in the Makarska Riviera.
