The Winter Solstice has arrived. It's the day with the least amount of sunlight, when winter is the deepest, and the air the coldest. I woke up early this past Sunday, we had our local elections in Mostar. I wanted to circumvent the crowds so I got there as soon as the polls opened. On my way there I got to observe a sight that I usually don't get to see: dawn in Mostar, especially in the Old Town. It was so quiet and serene, the colors in the sky so welcoming full of promise of a new day. After I voted I went to the nearby Lucki bridge from which I took a photo of the Old Bridge, but where I also turned around and took two shots of the views south. Winter can be harsh but there can also be a lot of beauty in these cold times. At least, there is a promise of betterment and hope for a future which won't leave is in the dark too soon.
