There are some places that feel like they belong in a storybook, and Samobor is definitely one of them. Just a short drive from Zagreb, yet somehow miles away from the rush of everyday life, this charming little town welcomed us with pastel facades, cobblestone streets, and that gentle, slow-moving rhythm that makes you breathe a little deeper without even noticing. This time, I wasn’t exploring alone, it was a family mini-adventure: my mom, our four-legged explorer Beni, and me. We arrived on a cool and overcast morning, the type of day that makes autumn feel like the coziest season of all. The center of Samobor looked like it had been painted with soft watercolors, slightly faded historic buildings, terraces full of locals sipping coffee, and that unmistakable sense of cafe-culture calm. Beni, as always, took the lead. Tail up, nose working overtime, tiny steps full of purpose. Mom followed with that delighted look she always gets when a town feels “just right.” And I… well, I was somewhere between taking it in through my eyes and framing it in my head as a future blog post.
One of the best things about Samobor is how walkable and dog-friendly it is. Beni enjoyed every corner, from the little squares to the bridges and riverside paths. A few people stopped to smile at him, which he accepted with the seriousness of a 17-year-old Maltese gentleman. Yes, he just celebrated his 17th Birthday!
No visit to Samobor is complete without the dessert, the legendary kremsnita. Light, creamy, not too sweet, with that perfect flaky top layer. We shared a slice (okay, I ate most of it, but mom didn’t complain), while Beni watched with the intense concentration only dogs have when food is involved. And yes, I can officially confirm: Samoborska kremšnita deserves its fame.
