The Night isn't just a veil of darkness. Night changes everything. The mood and atmosphere are different, people have different habits, and only the glow of artificial light punctuates the blackness.
The following images were taken from the balcony of our apartment in Sarajevo, and show various views of the city at night. I took these last winter, while the snow was still holding on to the ground, and heavy clouds drifted on the horizon, promising that more snow would come. The city lights lit the clouds from underneath, coloring them in dark purple colors, while the ground was merely shining away...

I have often found myself standing on this place and gazing upon the lights in the distance, and wondering who flipped them on...
Wunderschön! Die glänzenden Lichter versprechen wirklich Geheimnisse.
ReplyDeleteDanke Simone!
DeleteLovely bokah!
ReplyDeleteNothing like night lights bokah...
DeleteStunning images, Mersad. Well done!
ReplyDeleteThanks Mona.
Deletei love the purple tones the sky gets.
ReplyDeleteSuperb, breathtaking night shots, Mersad, and they are well done indeed!! I do love the "mystery" of night shots!
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed. Thanks for visiting.
DeleteTHe lights are beautiful. I love how you did the out of focus shot. It is just right!
ReplyDeleteThanks. I like it too, even though purists would argue that there is no focus.
Deletethese are AMAZING photos! I did enlarge and sit and stare and stare. what a fantastic view you have at night... in the first one each window in that building is a different color.. and the close up of the tall building is wonderful... I might just snap myself to sleep every night if i were there. thank you for sharing this city with us.
ReplyDeletefor years, I followed a blog, Meda, who lives in this same city. she stopped posting in 2012 and I miss her and the views of the city. her blog is http://medam-photogarden.blogspot.com/2012/02/flight.html
I checked that blog out, and saw many familiar sights. Such a shame she doesn't blog anymore, I would love to have some company from my country.
DeleteYes, I agree all these photographs reflect the mystery of the night perfect!
ReplyDeleteThe windows are so captivating, they are like our lives in your photographs!
Great pictures!
Looking through the windows is quite interesting...
DeleteWow....na das nenne ich ja mal ein "Festival of Lights" ...
ReplyDeleteGrüße
Jetzt wo du es sagst... :D Aber ich denke das uns Berlin doch um ein längeres vorraus ist! :)
DeleteThe light and colores are really wonderful.....compliments Mersad.
ReplyDeleteGreetings, Joop
Thanks Joop.
DeleteI confess that I'm not usually a fan of cityscapes; but these, through your lens, are magical.
ReplyDeleteThat's quite a compliment. Thank you.
DeleteThe lights, the purple sky, all make these just awesome photographs....Where you wonder who turned on the lights, I wonder who lives in all these places and wonder what they are like...
ReplyDeleteThat's interesting to me too...
DeleteSuch a thoughtful post and I love the bokeh shot.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much.
DeleteMagic colours in these night photos :)
ReplyDeleteThanks.
DeleteThe colors and composition of these are spectacular. I really get a sense of what Sarajevo is like. We moved to North America in the 60's and the longer we are away the more I feel less European, but those who know me think of me as very European. I love the way you have captured the color of the city lights in the sky. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I haven't done anything for photo shoot out because I have been bogged down with all kinds of appointments. A price you pay for getting old!
ReplyDeleteThank you. I'm glad you enjoyed the photos.
DeleteBeautiful serie
ReplyDeleteGood night
Stefano
Thanks
DeleteA lovely SWF post!
ReplyDeleteVery nice and amazing photos, great post.
ReplyDeleteA mystery indeed!
ReplyDeleteKim,USA
Thanks Kim.
DeleteWonderful night shots! Love that bokeh!
ReplyDeleteThanks Karen.
DeleteYour night photos are so warm and inviting!
ReplyDeleteThank you Jesh.
DeleteYour night photos are amazing! I agree with Jesh, they are very warm and inviting. I have always loved night photos but mine don't turn out well at all. I also love night photos when it is raining due to the colourful reflections on the streets. Fantastic post!
ReplyDeleteI had to use my tripod, and getting focus wasn't easy. For every good one, there is also a bad one. You just have to keep trying, and they'll start turning out good.
DeleteI love all your photos, they look similar to the sight I see daily here, except we have no mountains , only tall high rise buildings!
ReplyDeleteBut there is something in that too.
DeleteFantastic !
ReplyDeleteThanks
DeleteThat is utterly gorgeous! You captured the 'essence' of night in all its glory!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much.
DeleteEnchanting.
ReplyDeleteWonderful series of photos -- love the purple tone of the sky...
ReplyDeleteI like how that turned out too. Thanks for stopping by.
DeleteAmazing Picture of Mysteries of the Night!
ReplyDeleteHave a nice Weekend!
Thanks.
DeleteI had stopped by before but didn't leave a note, I wanted to say .... but I think it has all been said. Your following is very faithful. There is absolute clarity in the photos, so you must have clear, very clear air. no humidity to put a haze around the lights. and did you also use a tripod and remote clicker. very nice Mersad.
ReplyDeleteYes, I used a tripod and a clicker to get maximum stability. Thanks for your words.
DeleteI keep saying I will use my tripod, but I don't take it out with me, I put in my suitcase then never take it out the door..... To impatient I guess. Did you see my new header photo? No tripod, was the camera's auto panorama and I had to move the camera, I loved the way it turned out.
DeleteThese are such stunning night scenes, Mersad!
ReplyDeleteThank you
DeleteYour night views are brilliant. I love the second shot where the rest of the city seems to rest on the top of the building over the way. I missed this topic.
