Celebrating New Years Eve in Vienna

As the year is winding down, looking back into the past seems to be a  recurring activity. While this year no big travels for the new year are planned, last year my friends and I visited Vienna for a couple of days. The pictures that follow were taken on the night of 31st December of 2012. Lots of people gathered on the square in front of the Town Hall. The atmosphere was remarkable and traditionally every year fireworks light up the sky.

  5. I've never been to Vienna but one of my sons went out with a girl from the city and he always said it was beautiful and your photos support that. You didn't manage to go to the famous New Year Concert did you?

  7. My husband loves Vienna. He has traveled to many countries in Europe and hopes to visit his grandfather's grave in France in the summer. Our New Year is very quiet. My tradition is to fill out the information from my old diary to my new one - all essential addresses, phone numbers, medical information etc. It's quite time consuming and probably wouldn't get done if I didn't take the time on New Year's Eve. I have many identical diaries that go back about 15 years and are so good for checking back to see what we did when -- especially recording important purchase or events.

  8. Your night photography just blows me away, Mersad. These are beautiful. I've never been to Austria, but I'm a horse lover. So, if ever I did go, the Spanish Riding School and the Lipizzaner Stallions there would be at the top of my must-see list.

Our New Year's Eve is very relaxed. No partying. We might pop some corn and watch a movie. :)

  11. Marvelous images, Mersad.

What are we doing this New Years Eve? We will be on board Royal Caribbean's Freedom of the Seas at the beginning of another ten weeks at sea. We will go on board on Sunday morning. :)

Happy New Year, Mersad. I'll still be checking in to see your beautiful images on your blog, but only when we are in US ports were I have my personal internet connection. I won't be able to comment as often as when we are ashore. I do get email 24/7 while on board, but the satellite connection is much too slow for blogs and images.

    All the best,
    Lois

  12. I hate typo errors: "...US ports were I have..." should be "...US ports where I have..."

  13. Your night photography is always superb, add a beautiful city ... fabulous images! For New Year we will probably light a fire in a paddock, sit around it and have a drink with the neighbours. I usually walk home across the paddocks soon after the new year arrives, don't party like I used to. Happy New Year to you!

  18. Love the night photos, a city bright with lights and color. No plans for the new year. see the lack of caps - will just let one year slip into the next unnoticed.
I took my tripod out to take photos of lights in the neighborhood.... have to lauph at myself, I got all nervous carrying the camera and tripod under my arm, started imagining people here looking out their window and thinking I was walking the streets with a shotgun.... it is Texas you know ... and calling the police, Can you imagine - Halt, drop the gun, drop to your knees.... then getting a spotlight shining on my old granny face.. lol... too funny. Happy New Year to you and yours. Ginger

    1. I know how that must feel, and that would be too funny. I often find myself wondering if carrying a tripod (and mine is really large) with me is a bit to much. But the end result really justifies it.
