Time for the Weekend

Mostar is not a big city, but even here it can get pretty crowded during rush hour, and the cars can pile up in long, seemingly never-ending lines. This is of course true during the period when people get home from work, but also Saturday Mornings. Lots of cars flood the exits of the city, on their short journey for the weekend.

  1. Great view of the city. It seems like the traffic on Fridays can be horrible anywhere, I had trouble getting home from work yesterday. Have a happy weekend!

    1. You have to pick your Google Account under the comments box (Where it says Reply As). Sometimes Google doesn't recognizes it. That happens to me too sometimes on other blogs.

    1. Thanks Sandra. I agree. Everyone seems to own a car these days, and traffic during rush hour, not matter of the size of the place can be horrific.

  9. Nice shot! I like it in black and white. Yeah traffic here in Portland can get pretty bad - especially on Friday afternoons when everyone's heading out of town.

  10. hiMersad I don, t like traffic. I prefer the peace and quiet of the countryside.

    1. I agree. Traffic can be tiresome. I crave the peace of the countryside often.

  11. It's a beautiful picture of your city. I would think you could easily sell prints of this one in some of the local gift shops.

  12. Great city view. So sharp in its details!

  13. Oh, you were able to capture almost the whole city. I love this a lot. You were somewhere high up taking this great picture. Mersad, this is a wonderful composition and colors are simply stunning. Tones are beautiful!

  15. That's an amazing shot, Mersad, so sharp. Is it possible the details seem clearer because of the black and white?

    1. I used my tutorial on sharpening images to get them to pop out. But yes the contrast of the black and white helped too.

  17. Wow, Mersad. Mostar looks huge in this photo, and mostly re-built from the war, too. I wonder if you took this pic from a mountainside because it seems nestled in a mountainous area and you're looking down from above. Cool black and white photo.

    1. Yes I took it from a mountainside. There is a spot that can be reached by car, where you can view most of the city. And yes, almost all of the buildings have been rebuilt. The war ended 1995.

  18. City views are interesting. I see you have quite a few high rise constructions... presumably homes?

    1. Yes they are homes -- up to 15 floors i think.

  21. Love how you composed this - you can feel the essence of the Friday/weekend spirit in the crowds and traffic!

  22. I'm glad to have discovered your blog. Magnificent shot - aerial, I assume. And the use of black and white gives it a timeless feeling.

  23. Mersad, I came back to see if you left me a response to my comment, and found I didn't leave the comment. I must not have hit 'post'..... Do like your use of B&W. But I think it is also that you are using a tripod (?). I tried using one the other night to get some 'lights' shots and found them disappointing. My camera picked up distractions, power lines and such, that my eye was not aware of. Definitely a new skill set.

    1. Thanks. Yes I did use a tripod here. And the night shots you mentioned can sometimes not work out. I think it's important to visualize the subject before shooting, because power lines are hard to erase from an image.

    2. My mind's eye was seeing one thing and my camera lens another. I stress my visualizing because my vision is not good and at night even worse. But will try again, in the neighborhood and when it isn't raining.

  24. Absolutely amazing capture, Mersad! Wow! I love the views!
