Sky's the Limit: My Favorite Cloud and Sky Images

A sky can transform a scene completely. It's always amazing how one landscape can look so much different when you shoot it with blue sky, overcast sky and with moody clouds. The light plays a big role in that as well. When the winter days are long, and there isn't much to see on the ground, you can always rely on the fact that an interesting looking sky can pull your shot together. So in that sense I want to show some of my Favorite Cloud and Sky Images that I have collected over the years.

Summer skies and Sunset Goodbyes

Summer brings with it some lightness and that's clearly recognizable in the sky and clouds on those days. I love the shot coming up next, of my sister Jasmina in her red dress against the big puffy white clouds. It almost looks like a white cloth that is behind here, but then you see the blue of the sky behind it. I framed the shot in a way that I was at eye level with Jasmina, but left enough space on top and sides so that I could really show the scope of the image. These next two shots were taken in Sibenik, Croatia, during our summer vacation. When returning back to our apartments, a glorious sunset greeted us.

Full Moon at Dusk

When the day comes to an end, the sky and therefore the scenery transform. If you have a full moon in the image then you have another bonus to it. These shots were taken not far from home actually. I took these in the surrounding mountains of Mostar. The shoot out occurred mostly because of the full moon, but I also love the colors in the sky here.

Puffy White Clouds and Moody Times in the Mountains

Next up are two shots from our visit to the old village Lukomir. Of course the village was THE highlight of that trip, but the stunning nature surrounding it could not be ignored. I loved that the day started out with blue sky and puffy white clouds and eventually ended up being moody and foggy which gave a whole new look to the landscapes when we made our journey back home.

Natural Beauty Galore

Moody skies might be my most favorite part of landscape photography. I like them as a backdrop of course, but somehow they draw my eye in first. The next three shots were taken in eastern Bosnia and Herzegovina in the village Krusevljani. These are some of my favorite landscape shots that I took over the past years, simply because they show so much beauty of nature and it really surprised me to see how much natural beauty waited to be uncovered so close to home.

A Threat in the Sky

An who could forget this upcoming shot of the mysterious cloud, hanging over the city of Mostar. If you are interested in finding out more about it click the link above. It will take you to that post. In retrospect, this might be my favorite cloud image of them all. It's for sure the most unusual one.

Warm Greetings from Afar

In the end I want to share the red hot sunset sky over the Neretva River CanyonThe enticing low sun, made me pull up my car to the side of the road, step out and take it all in for a moment. A picture had to be taken as well of course.

I hope that you enjoyed this look back at some of my favorite cloud and sky images. Let me know if you have any favorites in the comments below.

  15. Incredible shots! The one with Jasmina is wonderful! The dark clouds...wow! They are all amazing, and I love how you explain the techniques used. I got off-track this time, and I apologize! I guess I'm excited that we confirmed the move...the sadness of leaving what we have here, but the joy of going to our new place. And that new place will be very much like the first shot in this series. I look forward to making such photos to share!
