The St. Lawrence Fortress in Dubrovnik is often called Dubrovnik's Gibraltar, and it's located outside the western city walls. The
fortress has a big court with mighty arches and, as its height is
uneven, it has 3 terraces with powerful parapets with the broadest one
looking south towards the sea. It lies outside the old town but you can
take a look at it when you stand on the walls of the old town.
It's the only fortress in the Dubrovnik fortifications that isn’t connected the city wall complex as it rises high above the city like a great protector looking out over all and everyone. Locally called Lovrjenac, it is built on a high rock face 37 metres high and offers a 360 degree panorama. The first thing guests to this fortress will notice is the actual journey to get there, there are well over two hundred steps from Pile. But the climb is well worth it, without doubt one of the finest views in the city and an ideal opportunity for photography.
The inner streets of Dubrovnik are filled with tourists these days.
I wish you all a happy weekend!
wunderschöne Fotos. Insbesondere das erste....atemberaubend schön.

Wonderful images that bring back wonderful memories of being in Dubrovnik in the early seventies.
ReplyDeleteIt's a long time since I was in Dubrovnik, happily before more of the crowds started pouring in. I would still love to go back, and while I remember walking the walls, I don't remember visiting here - one for my list. #theweeklypostcard

ReplyDeleteI wish we could have stayed longer in Dubrovnik, or that it wasn't so miserably hot last summer! I would have liked to explore the fortress a bit more! #TheWeeklyPostcard
ReplyDeleteI have always felt that those old castles and structures in Europe are a bit mysterious and awesome. And i wonder why the elements are not destroying any of them.
ReplyDeleteDubrovnik is such a beautiful place, and your photographs are stunning.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great looking Fortress Mersad I really like the 2nd last photo looking across the water at the walls as it looks so daunting & impenetrable
ReplyDeleteI have never seen Game of Thrones and was not even aware that Dubrovnik was the site of the shooting. Just on its own terms, I thought Dubrovnik was a special place.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos of the fortress. Thanks for sharing it at #TheWeeklyPostcard
ReplyDeleteNice shots, Mersad. Although Dubrovnik i imagine is a very touristy place, people are all headed there for a reason:)
