The Mountain Velez is named after the Slavic god Veles, and it's located in the south-central part of the Herzegovina region, overlooking the city of Mostar. The plains above the city are unpredictable when it comes to weather. It's mostly sunny, but winds can ruin the whole thing. Luckly for me this past weekend as perfect autumn weather. We even had some snow on the mountain peaks. The highest peak of Velez mountain is called Botin, and it is 1969 meters (6500 feet) high. I hope you will enjoy these autumnal images from the mountains.
The valley of the city Mostar.
In order to get here you need to divert from the main M-17 route that
goes through Mostar and drive to the lookout spot "Fortica" from which
you continue driving to these plains, sometimes known as "Podvelezje",
meaning "At the foot of the mountain Velez" (which you will see in a
couple of images later). Roads here are few and narrow. They pierce through the stony hills and
make their way over the valley all the way to the foot of even bigger
mountains.
What does the autumn season look like in your corners of the world?

ReplyDeleteSimply gorgeous, Mersad! I especially liked the view with the small building on the point of a hill. Such beautifully rugged terrain.
ReplyDeleteSome of the photos remind me of where we live!
ReplyDeleteLovely scenes. That road looks interesting and at the same time just a bit scary.
ReplyDeleteLove the sky in the last shot... Nice!
ReplyDeleteVery nice shots. It is snowing in our mountains today .... here in the valley it is rain. I don't mind - a good day to stay in and catch up with my blogging friends!
ReplyDeleteIt is lovely to have accessible areas and landscape like those. Regarding your last question, am sorry i haven't even experienced autumn, disappointed because i have the long time dream of walking barefoot on fallen leaves. The tropics only have 2 seasons-the dry and the wet!
ReplyDeletethese are awesome mountain views, made my feet itch to climb again.
ReplyDeleteStunning shots! It looks like a perfect place for a Slavic god - the views are magnificent.
