Visiting Lisbon [Part 2/3]: Trip to Albufeira

In the second part of the Lisbon Travel Series, we will actually depart from Lisbon for a moment, and take a drive south to the small town Albufeira on the Atlantic Ocean. It is a main tourist destination, due to its coastal location. The Old Town is situated right one the rugged coastline and is predominantly a pedestrian area. Let's take a look.

This is a multi-part travel series. Other parts include:
Part One: The Inner City and Oceanarium
Part Two: A Trip to Albufeira
Part Three: Above the City

Albufeira has two main beaches, Praia dos Pescadores, or the Fisherman's beach, and Praia do TĂșnel, or the tunnel beach to the West, which is accessed through a tunnel through the cliffs.

The beaches are connected, and from the "Praia dos Pescadores" you can walk for miles, eastbound and will find  a new beach again and again.

To the west the beaches are bordered by the Albufeira Marina, a harbour which offers a variety of boat trips along the Algarve coast.

The Strip's main street is Avenida Francisco Sa Carneiro which is full of bars and restaurants.

Despite the modern achievements and the millions of tourists that visit every year, Albufeira has maintained its unique feel and is still the fisherman's town it has always been.

End of Part Two
To be continued...

In the last part (which will be up on Friday) we will explore more from Lisbon, including some stunning sweeping views from a lookout in the city.

  20. Portugal has a special place in my heart, though I had never been there. In the 50s, my Dad went from Tropical Borneo to England, He made 2 great friends from Portugal. Though my Dad had died, one of them continued to be friend of us children.
