The Lighthouse in the Blue Bay

I love lighthouses, weather they are big and accessible or, as in this case, small and isolated. There is something about this object that feels very welcoming and it probably has to do with its function. A lighthouse shines the light that leads you to safety, away from the open sea.

These images were taken in Zablace, Croatia. As the sun was setting I was standing on the outer walls of a fortress, gazing into the distance. The whole bay was filled with the most intense blue colors.

I really love the pale orange glow of the sunset that is lingering on the horizon.

A close up of some flowers growing out of the walls of the fortress.

Across the bay, the city of Sibenik can be seen in the distance.

Do you like lighthouses? I love all coastlines that are filled with them.

  1. number 7 is wonderful.. the way the light hits the trees is what I love about it... i have only seen 3 lighthouses in my lifetime and i have always lived on the coast.. they are not something that calls to me.

    1. I think that, especially in the USA, there are many wonderful lighthouses (California coast and Maine especially). Thanks Sandra.

  5. Beautiful Croatia-just visited there in May myself, but not this location. I appreciate the way you've really explored all the elements of this one scene from close details to distant horizon and your taking the time to capture all the different colors of light. Beautiful--and, as you say peaceful--studies.

  12. So beautiful! My parents both came from Slovenian heritage! So when I see Croatia I smile. Although both parents were born in the USA all four of my grandparents came from a village called Lublanja! We live in Colorado USA and there are no lighthouses but I certainly enjoy seeing them! A very nice touch for Blue Monday! Hugs, Annr

    1. Thanks Anne! Actually Croatia and Slovenia are two separate countries. And Ljubljana is the capital city of Slovenia, where your grandparents are from.
