5 Spooky Places to get you in the Halloween Spirit

Halloween is one day away, and for today's post I wanted to share 5 Spooky Settings to get you in the Halloween Spirit. Today's Halloween customs are thought to have been influenced by folk customs and beliefs from the Celtic-speaking countries, some of which have pagan roots.

Halloween is a celebration and remembrance of the dead, including saints, martyrs, and all the faithful departed believers. Halloween is commonly reduced to scare and fear, when indeed it is so much more then scary masks and trick or treating.

There is something about the mood around Halloween, that makes me want to pack my things and venture out into uncharted territory, celebrate the fact that I am alive, and maybe, just for a moment, let the darkness come close. And in that sense, here are some locations that will surely, get you into the spirit of the season.

Alone in the Woods...

Escape

Isolation

A lonely hike

Trapped

What are you planing for Halloween? Is your city decorated? Here in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Halloween is not celebrated traditionally like in the USA, but some people do dress up.

    1. Most of these places are not scary, except maybe the last one, which was a old fortress in Sibenik that we visited, you can find more from that place if you search "Sibenik Fortress" on this blog.

  8. Nice pictures Mersad! I would'n dare walking alone in those woods.
here in Belgium many houses are decorated with pumpkins. some children are ringing at doors to get some sweets, and sometimes they get also a little money. But celebrating Halloween is not that commun as in the USA.

    1. I would actually like to return to those woods. They were quite moody and I wish I had taken more images. But I was on a hike that day, and we didn't have much time to stop, since the woods were on the side of the trail.

  11. Beautiful and spooky scenes, Mersad! Love the fence, and the "trapped room." Loved your musings about the holiday as well. Have a great one!

  14. Moody and beautiful, and yes, creepy. That last one is downright ominous.

  15. Perfect photos for Halloween. With that said, I am a major wuss so I wouldn't be venturing to any of those places alone. :)

  16. These were remarkable. You caputured the "moods" of each perfectly. My favorites were:Escape and A Lonely Hike. Also the last one (Trapped) was pretty cool as well.

  17. I would feel ok in all of these places except maybe the last! Being trapped or alone in the last place seems creepy. Great shots!

  19. oh i love "trapped"! since halloween falls on a friday this year and our high school football team has a home game, we'll all be going to the game. kids in the older age group are passing on the trick or treating to go to the game instead, dressed up of course! braden and dalton want to go as creepy clowns so i've been looking at lots of different makeup techniques!

    1. Creepy clowns will be very tricky for you. Maybe you can look up stills form the Stephen King movie "It". :)

  20. In Mexico, they celebrate the Day of the Dead.

  21. A little spooky, but more intriguing. I would love to gander down those wooded lanes.

    1. That place is actually very beautiful for a walk. Of course our imagination can make it seem spooky through an image.

  22. Yep. These locations have a eerie feeling to them. Beautiful captures.

  23. I love all the walking in the woods. Spooky? Yes and also no. MB

  24. These are all beautiful places, but they could be scary if you were alone.

  25. The way you photographed the path in photo #4 makes it look scary. I would NOT walk down that path, especially on Halloween night!

  26. Your last two images are especially fine.

Naples, Florida, is a city with many retired citizens and fewer children than typical cities. So, regrettably, Halloween is really not celebrated very much. It is one of the things I miss from Hartford, where Halloween is a lot of fun.

  27. Love the Halloween mood of your images. They are beautiful. I have a 'different' kind of Halloween image on my blog today!

  28. Stuning photos! I like such places...

  29. Definitely spooky scenes, Mersad. We don't celebrate Halloween the way the Americans do, if at all. Certainly where I live nothing goes on except a few fireworks. I have noticed one of our shops selling Halloween outfits for children but I have no idea if their sales are good.

  30. Lovely locations. Scary if I were alone in the dark I'm sure!

  31. Great play on the spooky Halloween theme !
    Enjoy the spooktacular day !

  32. I don't 'do' Halloween and I don't walk on my own in dark forests but the pictures are certainly quite moody.

  33. Of these 5 photos I really like the one titled "A lonely hike". Looks like an interesting place just waiting to be explored (with camera in hand of course)!

  34. All are beautiful, but I especially appreciate trapped!
